Diners can experience a great start to the summer holidays at George’s Worsley with Monday evenings transformed into speciality nights – previous menus including Italian, Fish and Meat nights.

George's Worsley Review

Last Monday when we visited, French Night was in full swing and the menu offered delights such as oysters, coq au vin and tarte tatin. All starters and desserts are priced at £5 and the main meal £10 – a 3 course meal setting you back at £20 and for that you eat rather handsomely. The next table to us ordered the frogs legs and moules marinere which looked divine and had me questioning my menu choices!

Monday 10th July will be Spanish Night… the menu looks very fitting… it had me at Churros!

I have to admit that for our review I was easily swayed by the impressive new Summer Menu – with options such as Pan Fried Pigeon Breast (starter) and Fillet of Red Snapper (main), there is something for everyone to have the taste buds flowing.

What we ate:

George's Worsley Review

Selection of homemade breads – served with whipped butter and oil – £3.95 This is always a lovely way to start the meal… and give us time to check the menu properly. After the school pick up rush, it was great to just sit back and relax with a selection of warm homemade bread and butter.

George's Worsley Review

Crispy Squid – served with pine nut, olive salad and rocket pesto – £7. 50 I love Squid. Simples. It is my favourite go to starter and as it is a dish that I generally don’t make at home, I thoroughly enjoy it when out and it has been cooked for me. Now, I am not the greatest fan of olives and it was the one thing that initially put me off this dish… however, I am so glad that I do choose it! The infusion of flavours was amazing, salty against sweet thanks to the Balsamic vinegar and pesto. Everything just worked perfectly and I loved how the squid was served in bite sized crispy chunks, it just made the meal so easy to eat… if you’ve eaten squid before then you will know what I mean! A perfect starter to roll into the main…

Lamb Rump – served with charred vegetables, peas, feves, shoots and pea puree – £17.95 You are given the option of the two substantial pieces of lamb being served pink or well done… naturally I chose pink! Lamb is a favourite meat of mine and it really does need to be enjoyed! This dish is quite salty and as I do not tend to cook with salt, noticed that immediately. Mixed with the gorgeous vegetables, all the flavours were sublime… I cannot recall what the purple vegetable was but it did, for me anyway, taste just like a potato. The lamb was cooked to pink perfection and unbelievably succulent. This is a fantastic summer time dish and is a great addition to the menu. Would I choose this dish again? In a heartbeat!

George's Worsley Review

Children’s Menu burger & fries – £6.95 As you can see Mini Me enjoyed this! As soon as I mentioned we were heading to George’s, she knew exactly what she wanted from the menu! Not a lover of chips, she does love the fries at the restaurant and dived straight in. The burger is fresh  and most definitely handmade – the presentation of the food is always outstanding, even with Children’s meals but I do wish that a couple of cucumber and carrot sticks were also included on the plate as the salad aspect is missing.

George's Worsley Review

Children’s Menu sticky toffee pudding – £3. 50 I did have to double check at the end to see if this truly was a child’s portion as it was huge! Mini Me has surprised me by choosing this over the chocolate fondant which she recalls fondly from our last visit but I do believe the Sticky Toffee Pudding is now the favourite! I tried not to have any but relented with two teaspoons and by gosh it was amazing… melt in the mouth with a soft and fluffy texture… by far the best dessert I have tried in a while! Mixed with the vanilla ice cream and the combination of hot and cold… perfect!

George's Worsley Review

Sides of onion rings, coleslaw and polenta fries. We were naughty… I needed naughty carbs before starting my diet the next day and these ticked the box! A huge stack of seriously crispy onion rings and polenta fries that were like doorstops… even the two that came home with me were even more delicious cold. These could seriously become a comfort eating favourite!

George's Worsley Review

Our reservation was just before 5pm and I found this a fantastic time for us to eat as the restaurant was relatively quiet and we were able to survey our surroundings properly – even checking out the funky ceiling! George’s really does have a gorgeous positioning overlooking the canal and experiencing it in summertime was lovely. We would have gone for a walk to the bridge if we hadn’t had very fully bellies! By 6pm when the speciality menu started, I noticed that it had become significantly busier so would certainly recommend booking even if you are popping in mid-week.

The staff are absolutely lovely and our server Felicity certainly deserves a mention – she was spot on with food recommendations and made our family trip to the restaurant that much more pleasant.

George’s is conveniently located just off the M60 and for us is very easy to get to, with parking spaces available behind the restaurant. This time I got to have a good look around whilst it was quiet and took some pictures of the upstairs section which is quite intimate and fantastic if you are planning on a gathering there.

The food is amazing, reasonably priced – if you are unable to making it on a Monday for a speciality evening, then definitely try the summer menu at some point, you will not be disappointed. Follow the restaurant Facebook page for more details on offers and menus.

If you are heading over to the Foodies Festival at Tatton Park on the weekend of July 14th to 16th then you will get the chance to watch Mike Brand, the chef from George’s cooking up a storm in the ‘Chef’s Theatre’ on the Sunday!
