A leisurely lunch in the new Bill’s Restaurant based in the Trafford Centre was exactly what my friend and I needed after a manic Christmas shopping trip.
Sitting down in the rather kitsch restaurant, with so many things to look at, I did not know where to start… yes I did… people watching! Bill’s Restaurant is situated on the top deck of The Orient, opposite The Wetherspoons – I am afraid I go for landmarks as opposed to actual specifics, but it is very easy to find! It’s location meant watching people watching was spectacular… but not as much as the food and atmosphere in the restaurant itself!
Not knowing where to start, perusing the rather extensive menu and lunch time special offers (menus change every 6 weeks to keep it fresh and exciting – huge fan of this!) took total concentration… so we plumped to start with Spiced Corn Tortillas (£3.50) with tzatziki, guacamole and salsa as a pre-warm up treat. We were not disappointed… the homemade tortillas were really substantial in size and full of bite… the tzatziki was absolutely spot on – my absolute favourite dipping sauce… so this was kept on the table even when empty plates were taken away.
Zee decided to plump for the Two Course Lunch and Early Supper set menu (£9.95 – a three course option is available at £11.95) and was remarkable value for money.
Roasted Squash, red lentil and coconut soup with crème fraiche and coriander to start and Chargrilled Minute Steak – lightly battered out, served pink with garlic butter and skin on fries (£2 supplement on top of the set menu price). For the price, this was really great value for the money and Zee thoroughly enjoyed it – the soup was full of flavour and the perfect accompaniment to move on to the succulent minute steak.
I however, decided I needed to see Christmas in epic form, especially after my fitness kick in 2015, so went full on with the Main Menu. It was a toss up between the Chicken in a Jar (Chicken Liver Parfait £5.95) or Crispy Lemon Squid with smoked chipolte mayo (£5.95)…. the Squid won out and it was an awesome choice. It was absolutely sublime, very crispy and full of flavour – definitely something I would be choosing again.
For my main, I had the Buttermilk Chicken Burger (£11.50) with Streaky Bacon as an extra (£1.50) which came with seasonal coleslaw, chipotle mayo and super yummy and crispy sweet potato fries. Having never tried Buttermilk Chicken before I was in my element – I found it to be very tender and more-ish – it was easier to eat by cutting up, the burger itself was a handful!
Not really able to even consider a dessert, we were easily persuaded to try the ever popular Lemon Meringue Pie Cheesecake In A Glass (£5.50) – the pictures really do not do it justice! Not only did it taste divine, but it truly looked too good to eat! I had a little of the poppy seed meringue topping and I was defeated, I let Zee carry on and the smile on her face told me all I needed to know… it is a must try if you visit Bill’s Restaurant!
The service was outstanding and I noticed that all the other diners received the same level of service. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and on hand to offer advice on meal choices. The Bill’s range is also available to purchase in the restaurant and it was great to see a card on each table which you could tick for purchases you wished to make – although walking around and viewing the products is much more fun… you tend to buy more too… so be warned! How can you not though? Everything is super yummy and the cookies are my absolute favourite!
We had a genuinely really good dining experience at Bill’s Restaurant Trafford Centre and I wouldn’t hesitate to take my daughter there for a nice treat meal out. The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food which is outstanding. I am already looking forward to returning in order to view the new menu! Menu’s can be checked out here.
A huge thank you to the lovely Josh and his staff who looked after us – their recommendations were spot on and we will be seeing them again soon!
