Big Fish Little Fish… offer music and activity events for children and families… with actual rave music… not Justin Bieber tracks!
Mini Me and I visited the inaugural Manchester rave back at the end of November 2015 at the Chorlton Irish Club, along with Jenny and her family and it proved to be a fantastic Sunday afternoon out with the families!
I don’t know what I expected in all honesty, it has been so long since I attended a rave – a rave with a carnival theme meant only one thing… I had to go for colour… which I did… I was the only one. The raves are themed, with an upcoming event being SuperHero themed, which I expect will be awesome!

We were checked in easily and it was nice to note that security was very tight at the venue, with Big Fish Little Fish coordinators easily visible in hi-viz jackets. Very reassuring when children can easily wander off in a crowd! The first Manchester based Big Fish Little Fish event was a sell-out, there were a lot of families who attended however the Irish Club is quite substantial in size, with parking available in its own grounds. Despite the number of people there, it never actually felt too crowded and there were spaces available to relax and take it all in.
Mini Me and Jenny’s children were probably the eldest children there and we were happy for them to just wander in the main downstairs section where the rave music was blarring and crowns could be made at the crafting tables. As you can imagine, Mini Me was more interested in the crafting than jumping around like a loon to the 90’s house music!
Big balloons, a bubble machine and confetti canons kept the children occupied on the dance floor before sustenance was required! The drinks are cheap in the Irish Club… less than £4 for a pint and plenty of soft drinks available for children at very reasonable prices. Nice Lollies were located by the bar on the ground floor, retailing fresh fruit ice lollies at £2 each. Mini Me loved hers to the point I did not even get a chance to try it!
More food could be found on the first floor with a wonderful cake and pastry stall selling rather tasty sausage rolls – there were even vegan and vegetarian sausage rolls on offer too. I love sausage rolls, I could quite happily have bought them all!

Face painting and a quieter play area where also located upstairs – which was great for the younger crowd there. I was amazed at how many young babies attended and how well behaved they all were! There was a real mix of ages there, but everyone had fun and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Something totally different and much more respectable than any raves I attended in my youth – much cheaper too!

Tickets retail at around £8 for adults £5 for children and pre-walkers are free. It made for a fantastic Sunday afternoon out and clearly we aren’t the only ones who agreed as the next couple of upcoming events in Manchester are already sold out!
